Key Points
- Our Los Angeles-to-Seattle records include two 300-cubic-foot bookings from 2024 and one larger, 533-cubic-foot pickup from January 2026. All three amounts are estimates, not final bills.
- Across 72 California-to-Washington pickup operations through October 31, 2026, the median recorded estimate was $3,790.09 for a median estimated shipment size of 414 cubic feet. Those moves had destinations throughout Washington.
- Los Angeles to Seattle is roughly 1,135 miles by road. A carrier’s agreed delivery dates depend on its schedule and the shipment, not simply the driving distance.
- Los Angeles curb restrictions and Seattle’s temporary parking-reservation rules can affect where the carrier loads and unloads.
- Review the carrier’s written inventory, access requirements, packing charges and pickup and delivery dates before the shipment is loaded.
How Much Does It Cost to Move From Los Angeles to Seattle?
In our historical bookings, two households moving between these cities had the same estimated shipment volume, 300 cubic feet, but received different prices. A later pickup involved more furniture and boxes, estimated at 533 cubic feet. Price also depends on what the carrier agrees to pack, whether a large truck can reach the building and how far the crew must carry belongings between the door and the vehicle.
Los Angeles-to-Seattle Estimates From Our Records
| Date on record | Estimated shipment | Recorded estimate | Record type |
|---|---|---|---|
| August 31, 2024 | 300 cu. ft. | $3,110.75 | Historical booking |
| November 12, 2024 | 300 cu. ft. | $3,230.30 | Historical booking |
| January 18, 2026 | 533 cu. ft. | $4,378.72 | Pickup operation |

The two 300-cubic-foot bookings were $1,254.45 apart. One was dated August and the other November 2024, and the records do not establish whether packing, access or other services were the same. The January 2026 shipment was larger at 533 cubic feet. If your apartment contains a sectional sofa, a full dining set and boxes from a storage locker, those items need to be counted before anyone can tell you how closely an older estimate resembles your move.
Broader California-to-Washington Moving Estimates
Beyond Los Angeles and Seattle, our California-to-Washington records include a wider mix of cities and shipment sizes. An archived booking may represent a household that had not yet moved, while a 2026 pickup-operation record shows a job that had reached the pickup stage. Their statewide median estimates are shown separately.
| Source and period | Recorded moves | Median estimate | Median estimated shipment |
|---|---|---|---|
| California to Washington, historical bookings, 2023–2025 | 164 | $3,185.04 | 380.5 cu. ft. |
| California to Washington, pickup operations, Jan–Oct 2026 | 72 | $3,790.09 | 414 cu. ft. |

A shipment heading from Southern California to a house in Vancouver, Washington, can involve different driving and unloading requirements from one destined for an apartment in central Seattle. The 2026 group also carried a higher median estimated volume than the older bookings. The two sets of figures describe different moves, so their prices cannot establish how much Los Angeles-to-Seattle rates changed between those years.
How Far Is Los Angeles From Seattle, and How Long Does Delivery Take?
Interstate 5 runs north from Los Angeles through California’s Central Valley, crosses Oregon and reaches Seattle after roughly 1,135 road miles. The distance will change slightly with the actual addresses and any roads the truck cannot use. You can divide the drive in your own vehicle into overnight stops, but the carrier may be carrying other households along the same corridor.
Along a shared route, the truck that collects your sofa and cartons in Los Angeles may stop for another pickup or delivery before reaching Seattle. If your new apartment will not release the keys until Thursday, a Wednesday truck arrival will create a problem even though the drive itself is straightforward. Confirm the agreed delivery dates or date range with the assigned carrier while the Seattle building’s move-in appointment is still available.
The I-5 corridor also crosses mountain terrain near the California-Oregon border. Oregon’s transportation department identifies Siskiyou Pass as a location where winter storms can cause temporary traffic holds and other travel restrictions. If you are moving during colder months, check the Oregon road-condition service before driving your own vehicle, and discuss how a delay would affect the carrier’s agreed delivery arrangements.
When an LA lease ends before the Seattle home becomes available, temporary storage may be necessary. Tell the estimator both dates while the shipment is being planned. Warehouse handling, storage and a later delivery can be separate services and charges, and the assigned carrier must confirm what it offers.
Preparing the Moving Truck Pickup in Los Angeles
A house with a driveway in Los Angeles can give the crew a short walk from the front door to the truck. In a high-rise apartment, the furniture may have to travel through a service corridor and a booked freight elevator before it reaches the street. A long carry or a truck that must wait for the elevator can affect the work and the pickup schedule.
At a yellow commercial-loading curb, LADOT generally limits qualifying commercial vehicles to 30 minutes of loading or unloading during the posted hours, unless signs specify otherwise. A red curb prohibits stopping or standing. That leaves little time for a crew bringing beds, a sofa and dozens of cartons down an elevator, so the carrier needs a lawful place to load for the time the job actually requires.
Building management can tell you whether a service entrance or loading dock is available and when the freight elevator can be reserved. Where the public street will be used, the posted curb restrictions and any necessary city parking arrangement have to be handled separately. Provide both sets of instructions before the carrier plans its arrival.
Some properties will not permit the move until the assigned carrier provides a Certificate of Insurance naming the building or management company. If a larger truck cannot use the street or loading entrance, the shipment might also need a smaller vehicle for the first stretch. Have the carrier review that situation while preparing the estimate. Our Los Angeles moving guide covers other tasks to settle before leaving the city.
Do You Need a Moving Truck Parking Permit in Seattle?
At a Seattle address without a loading dock or lawful parking space for a moving truck, you may need to reserve room at the curb. Seattle’s Department of Transportation offers a Temporary No Parking Zone for a moving van, and a truck using the reserved zone needs a Restricted Area Parking permit (RAP). An address with suitable private loading access may not need that reservation.
SDOT lists the RAP fee at $16 for up to two days, plus $8 for each additional day. In paid parking areas, its fee schedule includes $18.50 for sign installation and removal at metered spaces and a $22 daily lost-revenue charge for one downtown metered space with a yellow no-parking restriction. The charges depend on where and for how long you reserve the curb; a downtown reservation may therefore cost more than the RAP alone.
For an unpaid curb space, SDOT’s instructions call for the no-parking easels and required notices to be in place 72 hours before the reserved period. The application has a stated minimum 24-hour lead time, but the signs still need to be posted in advance. If the building already provides a loading area, arrange that with management before paying to reserve street space.
The Seattle property can also limit delivery hours or require a freight elevator booking. A truck may have a legal place to park outside and still be unable to unload if the elevator is reserved for another resident. Ask the manager what time the assigned carrier can bring furniture inside and whether insurance paperwork is needed. Our moving to Seattle guide covers additional preparations at the destination.
What Changes the Price of a Los Angeles to Seattle Move?
Start with a room-by-room inventory that includes furniture on a balcony, cartons in a garage and anything kept in a separate storage unit. If a large sofa needs to be taken apart to leave the apartment, or an unusually heavy piece needs special handling, show it during the inventory review. The carrier needs to understand what must fit on the truck and the work required to get it there before confirming the estimate.
If the LA building has three flights of stairs or a long walk to the truck, the carrier needs to account for that work. At the other end, a narrow Seattle approach road could require unloading into a smaller vehicle before the furniture reaches the building. A shuttle or long carry can change the services and price, even when the furniture inventory itself stays the same.
If you need the carrier to pack dishes, dismantle bulky furniture or hold the shipment while you wait for keys in Seattle, those services belong in the original request. Changing the inventory at pickup or adding storage later can lead to a different charge. The terms also depend on whether the carrier issues a binding or non-binding estimate; our moving quotes and estimates guide explains the distinction.
We arrange interstate household-goods moves as a broker, working with registered motor carriers that load, transport and deliver the shipment under the agreed services. The FMCSA requires interstate brokers and carriers to be registered. Before pickup, the assigned carrier’s identity, written estimate and delivery terms should be clear, including any shuttle, packing or storage that has been requested.
When to Arrange Pickup, Parking and Delivery
When you know the moving dates
If the LA lease ends Friday and the Seattle condominium allows deliveries only Monday through Thursday, the pickup and delivery dates need to accommodate both properties. Obtain the destination’s move-in rules while you still have several possible pickup dates. This is also the time to decide what furniture you are taking, what you will sell and whether anything needs to be stored before delivery.
Before the carrier accepts the shipment
Pass the building’s insurance instructions to the assigned motor carrier so the Certificate of Insurance can name the correct property or manager. Keep the approved elevator appointments and any Seattle curb reservation with the moving paperwork. If a building changes its assigned time, tell the carrier before pickup so the delivery schedule can be discussed while there are still alternatives.
During the last week in Los Angeles
In the final week, finish packing the cartons assigned to you and set aside medication, identification, keys, documents and chargers for the trip. A contact who can answer the carrier’s call in Seattle should be available during the agreed delivery period. If nobody can receive the furniture until a later date, work out the storage terms before pickup rather than leaving the truck to arrive at a locked home.
For a longer preparation schedule, our out-of-state moving timeline covers the steps leading up to an interstate pickup.
After You Arrive in Washington
Washington’s Department of Licensing gives new residents 30 days after moving to get a Washington driver’s license. If you bring your car from California, you must also arrange Washington registration and plates within the required period, obtaining the new driver’s license before registering the vehicle.
At the Seattle home, inspect the shipment as it is unloaded and follow the delivery paperwork process for noting visible damage or missing items. Keep the written estimate, bill of lading and inventory available until the shipment and any outstanding questions have been resolved.
